My Interview With a Supervillain
Posted in www.busygamer.com May 28th, 2008 by sttim

A month or so ago…
I went with the Busygamer.com crew to an independent media convention called Staples, looking for things that caught our eye…
Boy did we find it.
I had the pleasure of meeting a man called “Lord Vile” who is billed as Austin’s own supervillain. His group was in the convention actively recruiting henchmen.
It’s tough to say what his organization is really about. Is it a Chaos based organization which plans major distractions in public areas? Is it really a charitable group (they are actively raising money to save a species of endangered grey wolves)… or is he truly the head of a super evil organization bent on taking over the world?
After enrolling as a hencmen myself (I got a nifty ID card and a hencmen ID #466!) I asked him myself…
“In general.. we challenge conformity,” Vile says. “Everyone has a sense that something is wrong, it’s more apathetic than political, but they all know. The trick the administration has pulled, is they keep trying to tell us what that thing is. These expectations are keeping us from who we can be.” “Many of the actions and missions we do involve challenging people’s assumptions, challenging their preconceptions of doing things the way they are used to doing them.”

Is he for real? Talking to him… he truly sounds genuine, mad, or a very good actor.

“We have minions all over.. as far as Australia, for some reasons the Australians love us…” He then talked briefly of the different ranks that are involved in his organization.. he then told me that yes they promote from within, but it’s more than a fictional sense, they actually have something called “Vile Industries” which is a henchmen started and run collection of different jobs and employment.

It’s not all fun and games… “If I was just playing Lord Vile like people play Santa Claus on Christmas, it would be a different story. If all of the missions we did were fictional and all put on youtube for laughs, it would be different, but we do some real things. Some of it is fictional and ridiculous, I am standing here in a cape, I am fully aware of how I look. I CHOOSE to look like this in a comic convention. So yes, we do not break the law, sometimes we bend it.”

SO why Villainy in this day in age? A lot of heroes seem to represent the status quo. Boring. Follow the rules. America seems to pride itself on individuality and creativity, but mainstream America is usually the first to criticize someone for breaking the mold. It truly does take a villain to break out of the Clark Kent mode of thinking, shake things up and be heard. Funny thing about villains… they may not always win, but you sure do remember them.

game informed.

man…

there’s been too many times, including tonight, when i decide to pop in halo 3 and go into matchmaking late at night.

and it never fails, when i decide to go into team matches, i get paired up with the worst possible teammates…

but that’s that. whatev. better luck tomorrow night.

anyways, i got my latest issue of Game Informer from gamestop the other day and low and behold, the cover features some familiar faces. those faces belonging to the rocking guitar players of guitar hero.

but what’s this? johnny napalm with drum sticks?

yep. it’s official, GHIV is on it’s way and there are LOADS of new features that your’s truly, can’t wait for.

although i must say, is it really necessary for them to put out a drum set as well?

i mean, this is GUITAR hero… drums, C your way out of here. rock band is where you belong.

and good luck to those trying to get a girlfriend when she sees that you have 2 virtual drums sets.”you rock!” (and you’re about to sink like one).

however, drum sets aren’t the only rock band related upgrade for the latest installment of the guitar hero era.

other notable features:
create-a-character
create-a-tattoo/band logo/guitar
performers interact with each other more

but more importantly, the newest feature Create-A-Song should strike as a very new and innovative way to play the game. i’m not exactly too sure how you would do such a thing, but what i got out of the article, you can customize chords and patterns and have all of the other instruments to play the same patterns. sounds awesome to me and i look forward to the new option.

developers also mentioned more DLC goodies. that’s DownLoadable Content for all of our lamens out there. i was very pleased to see a FREE Dropkick Murphys track pack for GH3 when St. Patrick’s Day came around this past March. hope to see more free gifts in the future.

so i can’t wait. not only for this game, but for next month’s release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith!

my dad introduced me to aerosmith when i was young and lame. but i soon fell in love with the amazing classic rock they provided to my ears. man oh man i can’t wait until the end of june!!!

and so in conclusion, what songs do you think should end up on Guitar Hero 4??

i am actually quite surprised that Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ In the Years” hasn’t made it yet :(

so there’s my vote:
Steely Dan - Reelin’ In the Years

what’s your’s?

peace!

Allow myself to introduce….. myself.

Have no fear! punkrockjosh is here!

newest member to the team and i plan on bringing loads of video game blogs to your nerdy mind. more than your brain has room for! i’ve been gaming since i was four when my parents made the biggest mistake in their lives… purchasing me that brand spankin’ new Super Nintendo! boy i tell ya… i played on these things in every store that had a display. you’d best believe that toys r us was my favorite place to go back in the day when they featured Super Mario World on every game tv there. and once i watched another kid play and learned that Super Mario could fly with a cape! oh man, it was over. put me to bed mama! i’m dreaming of nintendo tonight!!

and now look at us, video games have revolutionized the way people think, entertain themselves, “behave” etc. etc.

yeah, you remember when they blamed our violent behavior on mortal kombat? nah, we were just getting older filled with angst! although, i will admit one time i hit my brother in the face with a plastic pot water holder that was somewhat shaped like a frisbee because we were outside and he was liu kang and i was kung lao… i won. totally.

and here we are now, with all kinds of systems at our disposal! the nintendo wii, the xbox 360, the playstation 3. all the way down to the handheld nintendo ds, and playstation portable.

man, times have been a’changin.

but anyways, that’s me. punkrockjosh. i rock, i roll, i game. growing up on nintendo may have made me a “fanboy” but trust me, i spend most of my time these days wrecking on guitar hero and grand theft auto 4. and who could forget halo 3. ah yes. good times.

stay tuned for future posts by your’s truly.

thank you busy gamer!
